the revival
Tatak Ng Apat Na Alon (Mark of The Four Wave) is a contemporary tribe that focuses on reviving our past - a past that colonization tried to take away from us. Our intention is to rekindle the tradition of our ancestors and fan the flame for the next generations. The photos of our tribe members have actualized their family’s story as beautiful traditional tattoo markings across their bodies. Each and every line, shape, and symbol have intention and significance.
It's crucial that we continue to educate ourselves on a deeper level about our past and ancestral lineage, to find pride in our culture and to once again feel comfortable in our skin. It is vital for the survival of Filipino people that we rise up and protect our disappearing culture. The colonizer denounced our ancestors' poetic beliefs and traditions. We now have the opportunity to wear our culture proudly on our skin.

Art knows no boundaries of race, color, creed or time. Manifestations of human imagination have existed since the beginning. It has been an integral part of our evolution from the development of who we are, the connection to our higher selves, and how we relate to one another. To explore the art of tribal communities is to explore what they believed sacred - to witness what inspired their souls.

making a mark
“A people without knowledge of their history and culture are like a tree without roots” says Amang Hanuno’o, a member of the Tatak Ng Apat Na Alon tribe. Our mission is to support each other in getting back to our roots so that we can grow and reach for the warmth of the sun. Many of us are seeds yearning to sprout with the nurturing wisdom and knowledge of our ancient culture.
It is our responsibility to seek answers for ourselves - to research about our roots, our ancestors - and then share what we learned with one another.
Tatak Ng Apat Na Alon Tribe has hundreds of members all over the world. Most have been tattooed in the modern way, with tattoo machines, but some have gotten traditional hand worked tattoos. We are constantly growing, expanding our knowledge and evolving our impact on the community. Our mission is forever rooted in reviving culture and to let it grow.
